Food Trip: Fine Dining at Ilustrado, Intramuros
Ilustrado literally means “learned one” or “enlighted one” in Spanish. In Philippine history, Ilustrado is a Filipino educated class in the Spanish colonial era. Ilustrado was composed of Phhilippine-born middle class intellectuals educated in Spanish and exposed to Spanish liberal ideals.
A restaurant has been named after these enligtened ones. Ilustrado Restaurant caters to guests of different International and Filipino tastes. It has been in the business for more than 19 years and has established a name as a fine dining restaurant.
As with any fine dining restaurant, reservation is a must. Our reservation was done a week prior our actual dining day, as the restaurant usually gets packed on certain dates. On Sundays, the restaurant is closed but the nearby Cafe Ilustrado is open.
Our 3-course lunch was simple yet flavorful.
Our overall dining experience was excellent. Given that there was no event in the banquet upstairs (which can oftentimes cause inconvenience to do the diners downstairs), the servers were very attentive. The food was good. The ambiance was excellent. It’s an excellent to-go-to restaurant to celebrate intimate special occasions.
