Travel: Boracay Island

Boracay is an island of the Philippines located approximately 315 km (200 miles) south of Manila. Boracay, with its powdery white sand and turquoise blue waters has been voted in 1990 by the BMW Tropical Beach Handbook as one of the best beaches in the world, and again in 1996 by British publication TV Quick as the world’s number one tropical beach.

Our trip to Boracay has been booked as early as April 2011. Anticipation has been high since May 2011. No one and nothing could stop us from going to Bora – – or so we thought. That was until Thypoon Falcon hit Metro Manila. It was raining non-stop. Most major streets were flooded. Classes were suspended. Flights were cancelled. Our fervent prayers were non-stop from Thursday to Saturday morning, all fervently praying for airports to resume normal operations come Saturday noon.

Prayers answered. Despite the heavy rains, airports resume normal operations on Saturday morning. Hurray! Hurray!

Forty-five minutes after leaving Manila, our small propeller-type Seair plane landed on Bora. We were greeted by chirping birds, clear blue skies, and perfect sunny weather! Ahhh – – the perfect Boracay weather. We’re ready for 3 days of Bora adventure.

Food Trip: Chef’s Table by Bruce Lim

Food Trip: Chef’s Table by Bruce Lim

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle’s flight,
Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it … Dad
Happy Happy Happy Dad’s Day! =D

To avoid the usual heavy traffic along EDSA and C5 on Father’s Day, the Pascua family had an anticipated Father’s Day Celeb a night prior June 19th. My family celebrated Father’s Day in a Filipino modern dining setting with celebrity chef, Bruce Lim in his own “private” kitchen.

Event: Bonifacio Global City Passion Parade

Event: Bonifacio Global City Passion Parade

Received an email four weeks ago from a blogger friend, inviting us to watch the first ever Bonifacio Global City (BGC) Passion Parade. Several groups were invited by the BGC management to show their passion for different hobbies, sports, pets, and clubs during the parade on May 28th and June 4th at 5 PM.

We were supposed to cover the event on its first weekend, May 28th. However, due to the heavy rains in the Quezon City area, we decided to let the first one go and attend the second parade scheduled on June 4th instead.

On June 4th, we witnessed the second run of the First Giant Balloon Parade brought by Bonifacio Global City (BGC). It was a Filipino version of Macy’s Thanskgiving Parade. The parade passed through the main streets of Bonifacio High Street. It featured big colorful displays of 7 to 12-foot high giant balloon sculptures. It also featured several groups with members passionate about their hobbies, sports, clubs, pets, etc. BGC’s passion communities were composed of cyclists, runners, skateboarders, Miata sports car and Mini Cooper enthusiasts.
